  • Recent Work

The initial idea was to update section as conferences and publications were happening...
Alas a rather full diary and different other priorities have not left much time for this visual summary and for the moment it is more appropriate to have a look at the publication  and conference  lists...

  • Amphiphlic Media for nPs Syntheses

We carried out a detailed investigation of low temperature solution synthesis targeting homogenous composition of iron platinum nanocolloids (nCs).

  • Hybrid Metal-Semiconductor nanoMaterials

The colloidal synthetic conditions to grow Indium Nitride (InN) nanotubes via the thermal co-decomposition of different indium and nitrogen precursors have been investigated to produce core shell structures consisting of a metal indium core surrounded by a polycrystalline InN shell.

Transition of the InN nanostructures from nanoparticles to nanotubes could be achieved by carefully tuning the reaction conditions. XRD and TEM have been extensively used to both gain insight and understand the colloidal syntheses of InN nanostructures synthesized via a Solution-Liquid-Solid growth mechanism. This is a promising strategy to better control the fabrication of hollow- as well as hetero-nanostructures.

  • Magnetic nPs & Bio-Medical Applications

FePt magnetic nanoparticles (nPs) offer great interests for biomedical applications such as magnetic separation, drug delivery, hyperthermia and MRI, because its high magnetic anisotropy is one of the highest of any known material. A natural question arises regarding the potential toxicity and biomedical applications of fcc -FePt.

In this context, we have made promising progresses in the syntheses of low polydispersity FePt nPs and their use as negative MRI contrast agents.

    • ~ 5 nm fcc FePt nPs were synthesized by a modified thermal decomposition method & made to be water soluble by coating with nPs surface with cysteamine.
    • Cytotoxicity studies of FePt NPs were carried out on cells, while cell uptake of NPs through endocytosis was investigated by TEM study.
    • Longitudinal and transverse relaxations of cysteamine coated FePts was measured.

  • Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Photoluminescent POSS Dentritic Materials

We have developed a a general strategy to engineer more efficient photoluminescent hybrid organic-inorganic nanometer scale photoluminescent materials. A series of chromophores altered with bulky groups were grafted on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane cores used as a model of a nanometer scale silicon oxide interface. Photoluminescence quantum yields, steady state and time-resolved solution spectroscopy along with molecular dynamics investigation and electronic structure calculations on a family of this new material are reported highlighting an apparent contrast between free and confined chromophores relevant to the design of more efficient hybrid organic-inorganic nanometer scale photoluminescent materials for sensors and hybrid light emitting diodes.
